Depressed or irritable for at least 2 years (one year
for children and adolescents)
Absence of a Major Depressive Episode during the
first 2 years of this depressed mood (one year for
children and adolescents) LI
Absence of months of nondepressed mood during the
worst 2 years of this depression (one year for children
and adolescents) LI
At least 2 of the following:
- Poor appetite or overeating during this
prolonged depression
- Insomnia or hypersomnia during this prolonged
depression
- Low energy or fatigue during this prolonged
depression
- Low self-esteem during this prolonged depression
- Poor concentration or difficulty making
decisions during this prolonged depression
- Feelings of hopelessness during this prolonged
depression
Has never had a Manic Episode or an unequivocal
Hypomanic Episode
Absence of delusions or hallucinations for at least
two weeks in the absence of prominent mood symptoms
Not superimposed on a chronic psychotic disorder,
such as Schizophrenia or Delusional Disorder
Absence of evidence that an organic factor initiated
and maintained this prolonged depression
