Depression and Other Psychiatric Disorders
and Medical Conditions

Depression sometimes goes along with another disorder, condition, or illness--either as a symptom of that illness, or as a result of depression. Understanding the relationships between them can help with recovery.

What Illnesses Can Be Present?

Numerous conditions can be present alongside depression. In some cases, depression is actually a symptom of the other illness, and once that illness is treated, the depression will vanish. In other cases, depression brings on the other condition. In still others, the relationship between them is impossible to determine. This is why it's so important to see a doctor if you are experiencing the signs of depression.

The list of psychiatric and medical conditions that can coincide with depression is so long that I don't have the time or space to list them all here. Suffice it to say that, quite literally, anything is possible.
