Parent Talk

Send your questions (make them brief and to the point) to Child Psychologist, Dr. Bob Myers. While he can't answer every question, he'll do his best :) and the answers will appear here. The page is updated daily and the older questions are archived by topic.

Question: Our ten-year old son is a terrific guy in all ways but one. He continually does "little" things that annoy us to no end! He will throw stones, and when confronted, says we've never told him this is inappropriate. Of course he's been told this since birth! The same happens with throwing balls in the house, spitting, being too rough with the dog etc. Nothing is critical but all are annoying! Any ideas?

It sounds like you may need to do more than talk with him. You may want to set up a program to help him remember to stop and think before he does things. You will find some suggestions at our Parenting section. You also may want to check out SOS for Parents in our store. - Dr Bob
