Frequently Asked Questions

We are glad you are seriously considering joining us here at HealthyPlace.com. Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions (faq). If your question isn't covered here, please contact us directly.

What is the concept of HealthyPlace.com?

When we initially developed the concept of HealthyPlace.com, two things kept popping into our collective consciousness that we wanted to communicate to our visitors:

- We noted that it's difficult to find quality mental health information on the internet in an easy-to-access mannner. You have to run through the search engines, which return hundreds, even thousands of listings, and you don't know what you're getting. Or you visit websites and follow links to other links. When you finally get what you are looking for, you are either exhilerated or exhausted. Imagine if you could get most, or all, of the information and support you are looking for in one place. What a relief! The HealthyPlace.com logo expresses that feeling: "Experience the Freedom"....that's the freedom that peace-of-mind brings.

- For many people who suffer, or are close to someone who is suffering from a mental illness, it is a very lonely and isolating experience. From that, we developed the idea of "You are never alone here at HealthyPlace.com".

HealthyPlace.com is a community of the internet's best mental health websites, a place where people can come for reliable information, to share experiences, and obtain support for whatever mental health issues they are dealing with.

HealthyPlace.com is designed for easy navigation, with communities developed around specific disorders. Each community contains websites, a psychologist or psychiatrist with expertise in the disorder who will answer visitor questions via a weekly column, and journalers who will keep a diary of their experiences.

In addition, we offer chat, bulletin boards, support groups, online conferences with expert guests and others who can share their knowledge and experiences, realaudio interviews, newsletters, ezines, and more.

What are you expecting from my website, content-wise?

We are looking for reliable, authoritative information and for you to share your experiences and feelings. You should have deep, meaningful content, not just a "links" page.

What level of internet/website design expertise do I need, to bring my website into HealthyPlace.com?

We expect that you already know how to develop and design a website using your own html and image editors. We will provide a page template for you. We use ftp to transfer files from your computer to our server. If you aren't familiar with that, we'll be happy to teach you.

Of course, if you have any design or development questions, our site producers will be happy to assist you. Our goal is to help you build the best website you can.

We also realize that multimedia is becoming a big deal as increased bandwidth becomes available. We encourage you to use it on your website.

Our chat/bbs system is the latest version from Eshare-the leader in chat/bbs technology. We will teach you how to use the system to lead a support group and online conference.

Beyond placing my website here, what are you expecting of me?

As a condition of placing your website here at HealthyPlace.com, we ask the following:

  1. you update your content at least once a week.
  2. you respond to your email in a timely fashion and treat all visitors with dignity and respect.
  3. you actively work to promote your site, HealthyPlace.com, and our sponsors, in a positive fashion.
  4. you agree to adhere to the HealthyPlace.com Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, and Content Guildelines.

Why do I have to use a template?

HealthyPlace.com is designed for easy navigation. When visitors move around HealthyPlace.com they don't have to learn a whole new layout as they move from site to site. It makes their experience here more comfortable and enjoyable.

Who's in charge of each community?

Initially, HealthyPlace.com will assign a "community leader" and an "assistant community leader" from the website owners. They will be in charge of coordinating community activities/events and helping keep order and answering questions from others webmasters in the community.

In addition, HealthyPlace.com is providing a "producer" to each community who can answer any questions or help resolve any differences that arise.

We hope this answers your questions. As we mentioned earlier, our goal is to make this the best mental health community on the internet. We value your input and hope that you'll join us.
